Sustainability Word of the Month

BroadView Software has been recognized with the DPP’s Committed to Sustainability mark for three consecutive years. The Sustainability Word of the Month is the next step in that commitment: a year-long program that pairs one sustainability concept each month with the day-to-day realities of broadcast, cable, and radio operations.

The idea is simple. Sustainability conversations in our industry often stall because the words mean different things to an engineer, a facilities lead, and a CFO. Twelve words over twelve months give broadcasters, vendors, and technology partners a shared vocabulary — and a shared vocabulary is what turns good intentions into measurable action.

The Twelve Words

  • August 2026 — Collaboration: shared infrastructure, co-located facilities, and joint frameworks that cut impact no single company can address alone.
  • September 2026 — Efficiency: reducing energy consumption in playout, transmission, and data centre operations.
  • October 2026 — Stewardship: treating environmental responsibility as an operating discipline, not a campaign.
  • November 2026 — Circularity: extending equipment lifecycles instead of replacing hardware on a fixed cycle.
  • December 2026 — Transparency: reporting environmental performance in terms buyers and regulators can verify.
  • January 2027 — Innovation: designing lower-impact workflows rather than retrofitting old ones.
  • February 2027 — Resilience: building operations that withstand climate and supply-chain disruption.
  • March 2027 — Conservation: protecting the resources media operations depend on, from power to bandwidth.
  • April 2027 — Accountability: turning sustainability targets into reported, auditable results.
  • May 2027 — Centralization: removing duplicated systems, sites, and manual rework.
  • June 2027 — Optimization: refining scheduling and content delivery so fewer resources move the same content.
  • July 2027 — Commitment: the thread that ties every other word together.

Why It Matters for Broadcasters

Much of the environmental story in broadcasting is operational. Centralized broadcast management software reduces duplicated systems, cuts manual rework, and lets teams run linear, on-demand, and FAST channels from one platform instead of several. Cloud-based scheduling lowers on-premise hardware demand, and better data means fewer make-goods, fewer reruns of failed workflows, and less wasted capacity. Efficient software is quietly a sustainability tool.

A new word arrives at the start of each month, with a short written exploration connecting the concept to real-world broadcast and media applications. Follow BroadView on LinkedIn or watch this page for each installment. More on BroadView’s environmental commitments is on our Sustainability page.
