April 6, 2023 – Toronto, Canada and Mumbai, India – Sony Pictures Networks India, one of India’s largest broadcasters and a joint client of BroadView Software in Canada and U-TO Solutions in India, has successfully completed a move of their broadcast management infrastructure from on-premise to Amazon Web Services. The move accomplishes a number of key objectives, making the user experience quicker, safer and more reliable.
BroadView users can now connect in various ways from home, remotely and in-office. Some are via AWS Direct Connections, others over the Internet, and some via Citrix. All have proven to be as good or more stable and well-performing as the previous on-premise solution. Elastic Load Balancing and Auto Scaling tools from AWS make for smooth scaling and high performance. The move has also created improvements in the overall resiliency of the environment and provides a cost-effective and robust Disaster Recovery (DR) solution.
Sony is one of the largest installs of the BroadView system. On peak days, activity can exceed 14,000,000 transactions across 49 channels, with more than 200 concurrent users. The move from on-premise to Cloud needed to accommodate eight different integrations between BroadView and other operational systems, all of which was coordinated with oversight from the team at UTO.
Michael Atkin, President and CEO of BroadView Software, is happy with the results. “One of the strengths of AWS is the high performance, low latency storage provided. This allows us to achieve the extremely high transaction loads we have at Sony. When we compare Sony pre to post-move, we see on average, a 15 to 20% performance improvement. In a system that carries millions of transactions a day, that’s a significant improvement in user experience. Working with our U-TO partners to create a better, safer, and faster environment for Sony has been a very satisfying project.”
Sumit Suri, Co-Founder & CTO at U-TO Solutions in Mumbai, which provides local support and client management for the BroadView system in India, agrees. He has seen first-hand the difference between the on-premise install and its new home in the Cloud. “The agility, scalability, security, and cost-effectiveness AWS offers enables Sony Pictures Networks India to innovate faster and scale their operations seamlessly. Seeing a client leverage these benefits is truly a testament to the power of cloud computing and the endless possibilities it can unlock for BroadView and U-TO for their Enterprise client businesses.” noted Suri.
